Tonight we're close to home — Calcifer is holding things together in the Moving Castle while Sophie makes her way to Stump End and Howl is somewhere in Kingsbury's mirrors. The castle has been building toward something for weeks: pipes droning, furniture drifting, the front door sealing itself to a nowhere-setting when it doesn't care for visitors.
Tonight that tension breaks. When Tamsin arrives from Keeper's Cottage with soup and a strange discovery — the cottage appears to be writing Edith's old recipes on the inside of its cupboard doors, some of them looking very much like spells — the castle's jealousy of its small neighbour sharpens. And Calcifer, who spent years as this building's literal heart, decides it's time for a frank conversation with four walls and a very stubborn roof.
Episode 4 of our fan fiction series, narrated by Jamie in his warm, unhurried style. New here? Start with the two full fan fiction novels first: The Winter King and The Witch's Halloween Masquerade.
